My Philosophy

Education

Learning can take place in any situation, location, and you need to have the right motivation. I'm here to engage anyone who wants to learn and to give a new perspective on the modern educator!  I believe in supporting all learners to enhance their content skills and make it possible to move forward in their community and the society at large.  It is my belief that all children can learn. Teachers should strive for each child to develop a hunger for learning.  Educational materials should be taught through a variety of different techniques and learning styles. Classroom instruction should include music, drama, hands on, oral instruction and recitation, graphical display, video, art projects, and more. I believe that reading is the key to success in all academic areas.  It is my belief to create life long readers in all children. I believe education should be child-centered and focused on having students acquire problem solving skills. For a child to have a successful educational experience the curriculum must be individualized to meet their needs and interests. Without the proper tools, people would be a burden instead of an asset. Through education, people learn not only the basic skills but also those skills which enable them to problem solve. Education gives individuals the means to use their problem solving skills in the areas such as science, math, technology, and all other content areas.  I feel that education must emphasize the training of the whole person. The purpose of education is to develop morally intelligent individuals.  Education should also increase the students’ abilities and knowledge.

Who Is Mrs. Leefatt?

My Background

I received my Bachelor's degree in Psychology and went on to receive my Master's degree in Education.  After that, I achieved my second Master's degree in Educational Leadership.  I am currently pursuing my Doctorate in Organizational Leadership with an Emphasis of K-12 Leadership.  I have been working as an Elementary Education teacher for over 25 years.  I am certified in Pre-K through 6 grade and School Building Leader.

My Experience

I am a 25-year veteran teacher who has worked in an urban environment with inner city students and have witnessed the many challenges that these students face daily.  I know that I am making a difference in the lives of my students and their families.  I strive to be the best educator to my students in order to inspire and motivate them to reach their goals and dreams.   I have taught in grades 3-K through fifth grade.  I have been a mentor for new teachers for the past 12 years.  I am currently working as an Academic Intervention Service (A.I.S.) Provider for students who need intense academic support.

Leadership

I believe that an educational leader is a leader who leads their faculty, staff, students, parents, and the local community towards excellence.  As a leader, I  dedicate myself to a lifelong learning through my experiences from interacting with students, parents, teachers, constituents, or everyday experiences throughout life.  Leadership involves influencing people to be productive.  As an effective and successful leader, I am continuing to develop my knowledge in public relations, proactive planning, and facilitating leadership through staff in many realms.  As a leader who continues to develop, I have dedicated myself to be a professional, ethical, and moral example to other educators, students, and the community. As a leader, my goal is to improve and enhance the views of students, teachers, and parents toward learning, student successes, and overall school culture.   I believe it is crucial for leaders to create a school environment for students, teachers and parents that stimulates and respects the diverse views and experiences of all stakeholders involved.
